Projects and privacy
This page explains, in plain language, how Dixel stores your work and what stays on your device. For the formal policy, see the privacy policy.
.dxl project files
Each piece of art you create is a .dxl project file. A project holds your
layers, the canvas size and color mode, your palette, and any reference images
you've added to the project.
Dixel stores these files in the app's private local storage on your Android device. They aren't placed in your shared photo library or uploaded anywhere by default — they stay with the app unless you export them yourself.
Bringing images in
When you import an image as a layer, Dixel uses Android's system photo picker. You choose exactly which image to bring in, and Dixel only sees the one you pick.
Sending images out
Exports and clipboard actions happen only when you start them:
- Export creates a PNG (and, with Pro, JPG) when you ask for it, and you choose where it goes.
- Copy places content on the Android system clipboard only when you invoke it; paste reads from the clipboard only when you ask.
Nothing leaves your device automatically.
Deleting your work
Because projects live in the app's private storage, deleting a project in the app or uninstalling Dixel removes those local files. Copies remain only if you exported them, shared them, or your device's own backup settings kept a copy.
