Dixel 0.0.18: open images, seamless tiles, and your own palettes
Dixel 0.0.18 is a big one. Bring outside art in, draw patterns that tile seamlessly, and build your own palettes — all free.
Open an image, or import it as a layer
You can now start from a picture. On the gallery, tap the new image button next to +, pick a PNG or JPG, and Dixel makes a project whose canvas is the image. Choose RGBA or Indexed, and optionally extract a palette from the image on the way in.
Already have a project open? The editor's new import button (the Options tab on a phone, the left rail on a tablet or foldable) adds the picked image as a normal, exportable artwork layer. That is different from the reference-image button next to it, which stays a trace-over guide.
Images that fit the canvas open 1:1. A larger one downscales once with nearest sampling and keeps its proportions, so a camera photo is never squashed and pixel art stays crisp. An Indexed project asks how to handle the colours first, so no off-palette pixel is ever written.
Tiled / seamless mode
The new Tiled control — Off, Horizontal, Vertical, or Both — lets you draw seamless tiles, patterns, and textures. Strokes near an edge wrap to the opposite side, and a dimmed, repeated preview around the canvas shows the tiling live as you work. The mode is saved with each project.
Create and edit palettes
Build your own palettes inside the editor. Create one from the + in the palette row — empty, from the current palette, or from the current colour. Unlock a palette you own with the lock icon, then add, change, remove, and drag swatches to reorder. Long-press a palette to rename, duplicate, or delete it. The ten built-in palettes fork a copy on your first edit, so the originals never change. In an Indexed project, changing a colour recolours the pixels that used it, in one undo.
Stylus pressure and a soft eraser
On a stylus, the S-Pen now varies your stroke. Turn on Pressure → size or Pressure → opacity per tool for the Pencil and Eraser, with a global master switch in Settings ▸ Input. The Eraser is now a soft eraser too — the opacity slider sets how strongly it erases. Pressure is stylus-only; a finger or mouse draws at the slider values.
The full list is on the changelog.
Thanks for drawing with Dixel. More to come.
