Dixel 0.0.9: grids, on-canvas transform, and a smarter eyedropper

Dixel — Pixel art, built for Android

Dixel 0.0.9 adds the alignment aids pixel artists ask for, on-canvas transform for pastes and selections, and a few small touches that keep you drawing.

Grid overlays

Turn on a pixel grid to see every pixel boundary once you zoom in far enough for the lines to mean anything, and a tile grid for sprite-sheet and tileset work. The tile size and offset are a property of the artwork, so they are saved per project, and you can set the grid color to whatever reads best over your palette.

The grids are a view aid only. They are never composited into your export, your thumbnail, or a timelapse — they exist to help you line work up, nothing more. Toggle them from the grid button on the left rail, or the Options tab on a phone.

Move, scale, and rotate on the canvas

Paste an image, or lift a selection, and transform it right where it sits. Drag inside the box to move it, pull a corner to scale, and turn it to rotate. When you commit, the whole thing lands as a single undo step, so one tap of undo puts everything back.

The eyedropper hands your tool back

Pick a color with the eyedropper and Dixel switches straight back to the tool you were drawing with. No return trip to the ribbon between colors. A tap that samples nothing leaves the eyedropper active, so a miss is just a retry.

Faster

Large projects open with less memory. Layer data now streams into the canvas as it decodes, so opening a big project no longer spikes memory the way it did.

The full list is on the changelog.

Thanks for drawing with Dixel. More to come.
